Job OpportunitiesPostdoctoral-level scientistCALIPHO initiative, Department of Structural Biology and Bioinformatics (DBSB at the Faculty of Medicine of the Geneva University and of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (ISB)Are you someone eager to embark on a highly exciting and exacting new venture expected to make a significant impact on the Life Sciences community? Are you willing to risk following an atypical career path where what really counts is how much you contribute to knowledge discovery and propagation? Are you interested in working with the people who are behind world- renowned resources such as Swiss-Prot, PROSITE and ExPASy . If you answered yes to these three questions, keep reading! A postdoctoral-level scientist position is available at a new research laboratory which is a joint endeavor of the Department of Structural Biology and Bioinformatics (DBSB at the Faculty of Medicine of the Geneva University and of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (ISB). The research project will form part of the CALIPHO initiative (Computational Analysis and Laboratory Investigation of Proteins of Human Origin), which combines molecular and cellular biological methods, in vivo experiments on model organisms and bioinformatics to decipher the function of the numerous uncharacterized human proteins. You will work in a multidisciplinary team, and will be in charge of the molecular and cellular part of the work. You will be expected to work in close collaboration with other groups in Switzerland and abroad for complementary experiments (e.g. in vivo studies on model organisms). The Geneva lab is embedded in an environment with state- of-the-art equipment and facilities for systems biology and bioinformatics approaches. You should ideally be a fresh life sciences PhD or post-doc with one or two years of experience, and with the drive to independently design and conduct experiments as well as to help organize collaborative research projects. Expertise with molecular biology and/or biochemistry and/or cell culture is necessary (and the better if there are "and"s instead of "or"s!). Familiarity with commonly used bioinformatics tools and databases is also expected. While knowledge of the French language is not mandatory, English proficiency is required. Starting date: Earliest: 1st March 2009 (negotiable). Length of contract: one year, with the possibility of extension to 3 or 5 years. Application: send your CV, the names of references and a letter of motivation by email to: calipho_hr@isb-sib.ch with "MOW-1" as the message subject line before 1st December 2008. Amos Bairoch and Lydie Lane, CALIPHO initiative team leaders (posted November 7, 2008) Full-Time Position (Tenure-Track) Assistant or Associate Professor of Biology in Cell Biology or Microbiology or Molecular Biology Starting in mid-August, 2009The Department of Biology at Sonoma State University seeks to expand in the areas of cellular, molecular and microbiology. We anticipate future hires in these areas and invite applications from individuals who desire to play a key role in this process. We seek dynamic teacher-scholars with proven excellence in research, and a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education. Research specialty is open, and we are especially interested in individuals who investigate mechanisms underlying cellular, microbiological, or molecular biological processes. A successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an externally funded research program that complements department facilities and expertise. Teaching responsibilities will include participation in a team-taught lower division course in molecular and cell biology, and upper division and graduate level courses in the candidate's area of expertise, consistent with the needs of the department. In addition to teaching and scholarship activities, all faculty members are expected to engage in academic advising, administrative and/or committee work, and to serve in campus-wide committees. The position is expected to be filled at the assistant or associate professor level. Starting salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Review of applications will be conducted for those applications sent by October 24, 2008. If the position is not filled from the initial applications, another review of applications will be conducted for those applications sent by November 19, 2008. Electronic submission is required for the following: a letter of application, a teaching philosophy statement; a research plan; a complete and current curriculum vitae including full citations of major publications. NOTE: attachments should be in Microsoft Word, Rich Text Format (RTF), or Portable Document Format (PDF). Additionally, please have the following sent electronically: three letters of recommendation directly from the recommender and a current teaching evaluation, if available. Make sure to include the name of the applicant and position number 103068 in the subject header of all electronic submissions. Official transcripts are not required until requested. (posted September 26, 2008) Post-Doctoral Positions, University of Manchester, Faculty of Life Sciences, UKYou will join a team led by Dr Chris Thompson at the University of Manchester studying the molecular mechanisms that regulate developmental patterning. The project involves identifying novel genes that regulate cell fate choice and pattern formation. Specifically you will determine how these genes regulate differential cell adhesion and motility during pattern formation. The project will be carried out within state of the art research facilities and a stimulating 5* research environment. You will be a member of a vibrant research community in which interactions between researchers considering diverse problems in cell and developmental biology are strongly encouraged. You should currently hold or be about to obtain a PhD, with at least one first author publication in an internationally recognised journal. Experience in general molecular biology techniques is necessary, with live cell imaging or protein purification desirable. This position is available immediately for up to 2 years. Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Chris Thompson (website). (posted August 29, 2008) To post a job opening here, please send an e-mail to dictyBase |
